Copenhagen Fashion Week – Was It The Best One Yet?

For print, colour and the main talk of the town - sustainability

This time last week Copenhagen Fashion Week was in full swing, showing a sea of print and colour and delivering important messages to the fashion world.

As a massive fan of Danish fashion and designers, well actually most Danish things - the city thats tipped as the happiest place to live in the world. I was glued to my instagram watching the latest shows live on each designers insta stories. Theres something really unique about CFW (Copenhagen fashion week in short). The positivity and new level of creativity it seems to bring. It's definitely my favourite fashion week to look at and get inspiration from (sorry home town London but its true).

From street style to front row seats, Copenhagen is fast becoming a place to be for the fashion industry, influencers and press. Spring Summer 20 collections did not disappoint, colour came in it's masses, print and pattern was everywhere. Strong messages and statements were all around, and Im not only talking about the catwalk. It really was a week that will influence the fashion industry, as Danish designers are now ones to watch.

Stand

This year the biggest focus was on sustainability, diversity and inclusivity...

With Stockholm Fashion Week being cancelled earlier this year due to the Swedish Fashion Council deciding they needed to focus on sustainable alternatives. The fashion industry were patiently waiting to see how CFW would achieve the sustainable standards Denmark are currently putting in place.

These standards are being released later this year to ensure all designers wanting to showcase in CFW abide to the new sustainable rules.

Copenhagen Fashion week has always been full of designers who are forward thinking. They are ahead when it comes to finding better and more conscious ways of living and producing...

Designers used sustainable alternatives such as, fabrics made out of pineapple leaves, recycled polyester for swimwear, faux fur and recycled lambs wool. Organic was definitely a key word for all the materials, and prints were printed using a single digital printing process that doesn’t any require water.

Brøgger

The other important message that came out of this years CFW was the diversity and inclusivity among the models wearing the clothes.

One brand that did this amazingly was one of my all time favourites - Stine Goya.

They kicked off their show introducing HOUSE OF GOYA.Think elegance extravaganza, anything statement and beautifully OTT.

Stine Goya’s fashion is certainly meant for everyone, their number one rule is to encourage us all to be different and to express our freedom.

This is also what I love about print and colour...

You can be who you want to be, and on whatever day you fancy. Print and colour can pick up your mood, make you feel empowered and confident and most importantly unique to everyone else.

Stine Goya's Diverse And Brilliant Show

In addition to all this Goya had a real diverse array of models at her show. She invited members of ballroom communities to walk down the runway. And most diverse and brilliantly, Goya partnered with networking app Bumble to recruit a number of amazing women to model at the ever so anticipated show.

The show was an electric celebration of diversity.. There was dancing and laughter, a great change in the sometimes stiff fashion world.

So yes... Get CFW on your radar...

below I've listed some other designers and trends to come out of this years amazing fashion week.

Ganni

Come rain or shine, Ganni did not disappoint...

With a young fresh colour palette of green, purple and chocolate , keeping it fun with sophistication.

Print - There was oversized animal prints, green clustered vintage florals and chocolate marble designs. All these then worn and mixed together, back with snakeskin over the knee boots.

At the end of the show the heavens opened and it looked like a festival party with everyone dancing. It showed Ganni's fun and easy side with a relaxed approach to fashion.

This was Stand's second time at Copenhagen Fashion Week and it was a statement of colour and print...

Print - Snakeskin dominated the show in bright colours. Alongside paisley florals and wallpaper style prints.

Designer Kamras does not use any animal by-products in her designs. The creative developed her collection using vegan leather and a material made from pineapple leaves.

Helmstedt

Emilie Helmstedt’s world is definitely colourful and playful...

Her collection is luxurious loungewear with a fun twist and for out of the bedroom.

Prints - Fun conversational prints. Strawberries seemed the fruit of choice. Colour is the essence of the brand so all florals and checks were in brights and clashy colours.

Helmstedt's mantra - 'What happiness colour can bring'

Baum und Pferdgarten

Baum und Pferdgarten's designs are always statement playful collections...

Print - A firecracker design on black as their statement piece. Hand drawn face illustrations. Hand drawn checks with neon brights.

Baum based their collection on a life of a dancer. They wanted a collection that celebrated and evoked what that life would be.

Top Print Trends From Copenhagen Fashion Week

1. FLORALS - One of the biggest prints to come out of the fashion week. Softer bright colour ways. Florals have a more hand painted feel to them rather then graphic photoshopped blooms.

2. SPOTS - And more spots. In large scale and micro. Mixed together in the same outfit or colour on colour spots to make them look new.

3. SNAKESKIN - A strong trend on footwear and outerwear. In natural colours and brights making it look fresh.

4. OVERSIZED ANIMAL - Update animal prints by blowing them up 200%.

5. CHECKS - New colour combinations with neon pops. Blazers and suiting are the main products here.

6. NEON - Still a key colour and highlight in most outfits.

7. PRINTED TIGHTS - Yes thats right, there was so many printed tights. Florals, spots and animal were the biggest trends.

And of course one of the biggest messages to come out of CFW was to be more sustainable. For brands to follow suit and put standards in place, to help make the planet greener in the future.

And that is a wrap on Copenhagen Fashion Week. Lets hope others follow this new standard set by the ever so cool Scandi's.

I also offer a more detailed trend report. Please get in touch if this something that would interest you. Thanks.
